A huge congratulations to our U14 side on winning Championship, beating Clan Gaels in a thrilling encounter on Sunday morning last in Kinegead.

Garrycastle 7-4 Clan Gaels 3-6

2 Goals from Aoife Galvin, 2 goals and 1 point from Stephanine O Neill, a goal from Ciara MC Govern, 3 points from Shannon Mulvihill, and 2 goals from Ella Dowling saw the Garrycastle girls lift the cup at the final whistle.

This was a great team performance working hard  in every area of the pitch. Our Goalie Clionagh Murthagh pulled of many saves aided by the back line of Aoife O Brien, Rebecca Norris and Faye Hannify whose work rate made it difficult for the Clan Gaels forwards to score. The half back line of Sarah Carter, Murin Mulvihil and Emily Ruane worked superb in defence.

Our midfield Duo of Eimear O Neill and Shannon Mulvihill played excellently. The half forwards Ciara and Elaine MC Govern and Nessa Dowling made the half back line of Clan Gaels work hard the girls delivered brilliant passes into the forwards Jessica Henson, Stephaine O Neill, Aoife Galvin, Ella Dowling and Aimee MC Namara who made the most of them. The rest of the panel Sarah Jane Kelly, Siofra McMahon, Emma Hynes,Ciara Kelly, Jane Connaughton, Rosin Mulvihill,Donnahay Molloy,Ciara Finn and Danielle Devery all played their part in getting this group of young girls to the final.

Well done & congratulations to this fantastic bunch of players who had a brilliant year this year, winning Div 2 Féile, representing Westmeath with pride in the Féile in Limerick and today winning their county final with a superb team performance.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped out with this team this year special thanks to the management team of Nicola Mulvihil, Paddy Mulvihill, Aisling O Brien and Sarah Dolan who gave their time all year long and also to all the parents and supporters who cheered them on every step of the way!

The future is bright! Up the castle!

Senior Semi Final

Garrycastle 1-14 Milltown 2-10

It was all roads to the Downs last Saturday evening for the senior ladies semi-finals. Garrycastle had a tough task ahead as they faced Milltown, the title holders and the All-Ireland club champions. From the throw in the Garrycastle girls made their mark and pressed on the Milltown goals from early on and notched up two early points and fine attacking work lead to a goal in the opening quarter. Shortly afterwards Garrycastle were reduced to 14 following a sin bin but they didn’t allow Milltown to capitalize during this period and held their own to go in a goal up at the break. The opening minutes of the second half saw Milltown emerge with more vigour and they eventually managed to raise the green flag. Garrycastle didn’t panic and responded with three quick points to keep them ahead. In the dying minutes Milltown were awarded a penalty which they duly converted to leave the minimum between the sides however time ran out and Garrycastle have claimed a place in the county final where they will meet St Lomans on Saturday 1st October. Overall Garrycastle can be happy with their performance; they fought hard all through and never gave up, the defence were solid particularly in the last quarter. The midfielders worked tirelessly and up front there was good team work with Aoife Connolly stealing the show with her tally of 1-10.

Team: Meadhbh Flynn, Aimee Duncan, Lorraine Duncan, Aine Lynn, Megan McCormack, Aoife McCormack, Orla Connaughton, Lauren Kennedy, Laura Brennan, Ciara McCormack, Ann Duignan(0-2), Aoife Dolan(0-2), Sarah Dolan, Elisha Hunston, Aoife Connolly(1-10), Aishling Claffey, Vicky McEnery, Lisa Fitzpatrick, Jane Henshaw, Nicole O’ Connor, Aishling Flynn, Aine McCormack, Danielle Madden, Kate Brennan, Sarah Denby, Orla McGetrick, Chloe O’ Neill, Lizzie Moran

U12 V Delvin/St Pauls

posted 12 Sept 2016, 12:34 by Laura Brennan   [ updated 12 Sept 2016, 12:35 ]

This side played Delvin/St Paul's on Tuesday evening last in Garrycastle. This was a great game of football, with great individual displays from Elaine MC Govern and Sarah Carter. Our forwards Aoife Galvin assisted by Amy McGovern and Rosin Murphy had to work hard against strong defence, however Aoife scored (1-4). The half forwards

Ciara Finn (0-1),Sarah Carter, Nessa MC Namarra didn't make it easy for the Delvin/StPauls backs working tirelessly throughout the game. Our midfield duo were excellent with Ella scoring (0-2) and Elaine providing the opportunity for the forwards with her quick balls into them. The half backs Shauna Jameson, Daneille Devery and Donahay Molloy played well in the half back line. Our full back line Chole Fitigerald, Amy Duffy,Orla Barry and Kasey Mulvihill were solid in defence making it difficult for the Delvin/StPauls forwards to score. Rosin McNamarra who usually plays outfield but due to not feeling well stepped up to play in goals and did well pulling off some great saves. This was a great team performance but the Delvin/St Paul's took their chances and came out on top by 2 Points.

This young side should proud of there performance reaching the Semi Final.

Thanks to Declan Finn, Katrina Jameson and Aisling Flynn who gave up their time to work with this group of young and eager girls all year.
